The Ten Commandments – It IS Good Business

Watching videos on ‘How-to’ with no time on ‘Do-Do’ is like reading the owners manual while at the green light.

Welcome, friend, to FREEDOM NATION UNITED, where we help families to FIND Money, CREATE Income and DEVELOP Generational Wealth – for themselves, their families and those they love and care about.

This is the home of

the REAL PEOPLE HELPING REAL PEOPLE Leadership Development program

As is my custom, I was sitting with my morning beverage today going through my morning pre-game ritual, as outlined in the post Exercise – Envision – Read – Meditate – Pray – Empower .

(Yes, I do consider every day to be a present in the game of life)

I was thinking about what messages I have received that would benefit you, the reader of this Blog Post.

We have been looking at how the SON of a Carpenter initiated one of the greatest businesses ever.

So “How did Jesus build the family business?”

The answer is clearly to be found in The Bible – one of the best business books ever written.

In Step 1 we learned that “In the Beginning” is WORD. Click here to review.

We should:
Take inspiration from THE WORD – that became flesh – in order to inspire our own words to “communicate the impression of increase to all with whom we come into contact”

In Step 2 we covered the need to “GET THE WORD OUT” Click here to review.

We need to:
Take courage. Develop our own messages “filled with love”. “Communicate our message with UNWAVERING FAITH“.

In Step 3 we learned that even the SON OF GOD had “HIS MasterMind Group ” Click here to review.

Who did HE include in HIS MasterMind group – to “work together in perfect harmony, for the attainment of a definite purpose

Who should WE include in OURS?

In Step 4 we studied how HE built HIS Leadership team. How we should choose people “hold themselves accountable to higher standards than others would expect of themClick here to review.

In Step 5 the business went beyond the initial community. How was that expansion effort structured? What was HIS expansion strategy? Click here to review.

DISCLAIMER. I do not profess to speak for God. Everyone’s relationship with their God and their own god-self is personal. You were endowed by your creator with free-will. It is for you to decide the relevance to you of my words.

Today I would like to take a step back and reflect on what the rules are under which the business was governed.

What was the ‘Corporate Culture?’

What things were covered in the ‘Employee Code Of Conduct?’

Are you sitting comfortably? Then let’s continue

The Ten Commandments – It IS Good Business

Let’s THINK about the text as contained in the King James’ Version of Exodus 20: 2-17

“And God spake all these words, saying,

I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.”

What this tells me is: that if you desire a strong and lasting relationship with, and in, your business – you must truly love it.

Give it your all.

In return you will get all you desire – starting with the God-given gift of the energy it will take to overcome the adversities that will be placed before you.

Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

From my perspective this reminds me that I cannot be truly successful in business due to my efforts alone.

It takes mentorship support.

It takes the wisdom of those who have gone before.

It takes a team.

It takes so much that, without acknowledging properly the gifts of and from others, we must surely fail.

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:

But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

What this says to me is to be efficient with my time organization as well as not being impatient about my time horizons.

Allocate time into your day, every day, for introspection and prayer.

Allocate at least 14% of waking time your conversations with God.

He reaches out to us in so many wondrous ways.

Listen as He speaks….

Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

My father taught me that “if there’s anything left over when I die it just means I died too soon” – in other words be both prudent and wise about your financial life, my son.

My mother taught me to “listen to your body. Always ask if the drugs prescribed are to mask or to cure. If to mask, be aware that you need to hear what your body is saying

Thou shalt not kill.

I look at this as a call to action to always strive to beneficial win/win/win relationships.

Nothing will kill-off your business quicker than relationships with your customer-clients that you ‘kill off’.

Nothing will poison your growth quicker than ‘killing-off ‘ the legitimate aspirations of those who have chosen to work with you.

Thou shalt not commit adultery.

In a business context I feel that, if you wish to thrive, this as an exhortation to choose your business partners wisely.

How many mergers have failed to produce good fruit because of incompatibility between the merged companies goals and value systems?

How many business partnerships?

How many once-productive teams?

Thou shalt not steal.

In the broader context, stealing is the un-approved taking of something that is of value to another.

If, in your business, you are always striving to give something of greater or equal value to that which you receive then you can’t go far wrong.

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

Beware, in you business, of mis-representation of any kind.

You would not want someone mis-representing you would you?

Neither should you mis-represent others.

Always do unto others as you would have done to you.

[Didn’t Jesus make that one easy for us?]

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.

Although this comes last, I feel it addresses one of the most insidious limiters of personal growth of an entrepreneur.

Be happy for he/she who has put in the time and effort to master their craft, to make the choices that have led them to success.

Envy will most surely prevent you from emulating and/or sharing their success.

For it is written….

So there you have it…

The Ten Commandments – a business perspective – from Yours Truly

Am I perfect – No. Do I try -yes.

As hard as I could? Only God Knows!!!!!

If it was good enough for God, shouldn’t we be Go(o)d enough for it? Pass it on.

God Blessed Us All – It is for us to Take Action On His Blessings

How Happy We Will Be If We Keep The Ten Commandments Of Love

What is our CULTURE?

What is our Code Of Conduct with our business associates?

What is our Code Of Conduct with our clients?

Do we follow the ‘GOLDEN’ Rule – treat others as we would want others to treat us?

Questions to Master-Mind and take DAILY ACTION ON…

Again, don’t just take it from me.

You can tell Infinite Intelligence – William Penn, King James, Lola and The Saints and The Book Of Exodus  sent you!

For myself, I hope that today’s post simply reminds us all that The Ten Commandments aren’t just about our personal code of conduct, they are Good Business Practice too

  1. Great Post Peter, and I love how you purposed the 10 commandments. With the Herbalife controversy “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour” is particularly important. Thanks again

  2. My favorite post from you yet Peter. This post should be read by every entrepreneur

  3. Bruno Buergi says:

Diese 10 Gebote sind sicher gut um ein solides Fundament im Leben und Geschäft zu bilden.

Vielen Dank, Bruno. Und das Fundament ist einer der wichtigsten das Man erstellen muss, nicht wahr? 🙂
